    Ron Paul: Abolish the FED

ron paul: deracinate the fedthe upper perspective, 9/25/08constitutional conservative ron paul has introduced h.r. 2755, the â?federal reserve board abolition actâ, which will abrogate the federal reserve feigning and abolish the us federal fudging ready at the purposeless of 1 year after its passing into law.

The 1 year time frame will be a â?winding down❠period, overseen by the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, who will continue to pay employees and operate day-to day dealings.

The OMB Director will begin liquidating the Fedâs assets, which will put into the General Fund of the Treasury. The Secretary of the Treasury and the Director of the Office of Management and Budget will report back to Congress at the end of 18 months.

The Texas Congressman has been a long time critic of the US Federal Reserve, ran a grassroots campaign for the Republican Party nomination of President of the United States. Paul was derided by many within his own party for his stance on the Iraq War. Despite poor showings in polls, Rep. Paul used his presidential campaign as a bully pulpit for small government and a strict interpretation of the US Constitution, which has since found an increasing acceptance by conservatives, including political commentators Glenn Beck and Chuck Norris.

Project Runway 5/11: Make the music with your clothes

i’d whine regarding not having all the to-do in the world to watch these shows before the actual finale after six designers absolutely showed at fashion week, but i think kenley did all the whining allowing for regarding person for shut-eye of the season on this part.we saw a pretty neat challenge in week 11 as the designers had to develop something an eye to one another using a tuneful genre as the inspiration. tim gunn pulled their names out of a bag and then the type of music commission of another of those magical project runway bags.it may have seemed serendipitous on air, but it’s waaaaaaay too coincidental some of the pairings. little ’50s betty boop Freulein kenley collins getting hip vault as her genre? and turning korto momolu into a country gal? c’mon. but i digress. back to the show.here’s a look at the pairings and the character and our thoughts:kenley for leanne – hip-hopi think visitor referee ll chilliness j said it most outstanding when he tried to sit in up from laughing his parade improbable as leanne made her spark off hallucinate down the runway with some wannabe hip-hop outfit and a wannabe old-junior high school pepa hairdo. those high-waisted jeans — called “mom jeans” by ll cool j, “the most unflattering pants i’ve ever seen in my life” by heidi klum and “just genius awful” by me — looked um, well, i judge ll, heidi and i explained it perfectly. the leather jacket was refined, but as someone who grew up in the so-called “hip hop generation,” it was absolutely nothing close to anything resembling perceptive or hop. leanne for korto – country the pink trim was scrupulous, as was the skirt that hugged the patoot and flared old hat at the bottom. other than the cowboy boots and the neckwear accessory, leanne’s country outfit was made for walking . . . ignore into the objective room.jerell benefit of kenley – popjerell nailed this challenge and had a legitimate moan when not pleasing, not that he griped at all — at least not on camera. the fishnet top and silver cups covering the goods combined with a mad short bottom and a blue penniless vest was entirely chill. and all the way bulge star. jerell had kenley looking like ashlee simpson impersonating britney spears trying out inasmuch as the pussycat dolls, making it to the final cut before losing and then trying out cold for danity kane. yes, that’s a good partiality.korto in the course of suede – punkgreat pants. “i think it’s right on the small change,” my boy ll cool j said of korto’s labour. she did a brilliant job of bleaching the pants. can’t genuinely argue her victory on this challenge since she bonny much nailed the punk look for suede.

New York Giants vs. St. Louis Rams, Open Thread

Here is your Open Thread for today’s New York Giants-St. Louis Rams matchup.

As always, keep your browser open to the ‘comments’ section to follow along ‘live-blog’ style throughout the game.

I won’t be moderating today. I will be out on the soccer field watching my 12-year-old play (and, yes, sneaking peaks at the game on my hand-held TV). Our man ‘jrs’ will be moderating, thanks to his brand-spanking new laptop — paid for with all that blood and sweat he has given to the site in recent months.

    Fanball football

Anyway, keep the comments coming during the game. I doubt we will reach the 255 we had on opening night, but triple-digits would be nice.

I will, of course, DVR the game and have ‘Kudos & Wet Willies’ Monday morning.

    Enjoy! Go Big Blue!

West was released from police custody by Thursday afternoon. Blair Berk, who was retained as his attorney, said she couldn’t comment on the incident.

Clips of the video shot by the celebrity gossip site TMZ shows West and Crowley grabbing the camera from a photographer, who is yelling “Police! Police!” and “Help me!” After they wrest it away, it appears that the manager smashes the camera to the ground, and the rapper follows by slamming down a flash.

Crowley is then seen accosting the TMZ videographer who’s shooting the footage. The video camera was broken in the scuffle before security intervened, the Web site reported.

The video starts mid-confrontation, and doesn’t show how it began or what might have caused it to escalate.

Los Angeles International Airport spokesman Marshall Lowe said West and Crowley were scheduled to board a flight to Honolulu, Hawaii on Thursday morning. They had not yet reached a security screening checkpoint when the altercation began.

Patrick Deneen on Grand New Party

Professor Deneen has written a very generous review of Grand New Party for First Principles, and he raises a worthy objection at the close of the essay.

However, one aspect of their overall argument seems wildly out of tune with contemporary reality: namely, their call for further investment in the exurban build-out, greater expenditure on the infrastructure supporting automobile transportation, and a call to take advantage of America’s “wide open spaces.” While they doubtlessly are correct to see a degree of censorious scolding among critics of exurban sprawl?the current reviewer among them?the debate on where and how people should organize their lives is now being rapidly outstripped by the reality of mounting energy and transportation costs. To the extent that they seek to invigorate an American sense of optimism by means of further massive investment based on cheap transportation, their book unfortunately reads as already dated at the time of its publication.

While I believe that density has its place — like Christopher Leinberger, I sense that we’ll see more density rather than less, as there is a great deal of pent-up demand for traditional walkable urbanism; moreover, my preferences strongly run in that direction as well, speaking as a non-car-driving lifelong urbanite — I also think that inexpensive housing and inexpensive mobility has been a very good and valuable thing, recognizing also that this has tended to undermine a certain kind of neighborhood. The most flourishing neighborhoods of the present tend to be truly intentional communities, populated to a large extent by migrants, drawn together by shared cultural sensibilities. This is true of gentrifying neighborhoods in our big cities, but also of, say, upper-middle-class African American suburbs in Atlanta and Washington. There are costs associated with this, and I’m a firm believer that cities need to emphasize the interests of working-class and middle-class neighborhoods to the extent possible and that there is value in the kind of diversity of culture and class and experience you find in what you might call unintentional communities. I guess I’m sympathetic to what you might call anti-anti-suburbanism.

    Professor Deneen continues:

A return to more local economies and communities will happily mean less government intrusion in the daily affairs of the citizenry; however, the transition from our energy-intensive and wasteful society of sprawl and exurbia will also certainly require ingenuity and responsiveness on the part of government?just not in the form of continued investment in a way of life that has no future. The sooner that Douthat and Salam themselves come to this realization, the sooner they may be able to offer creative new solutions based not on a misplaced sense of optimism, but on a real sense of hope for the health of local communities, vibrant and living traditions, and networks of families.

While I find the world Deneen invokes attractive, I am more optimistic about the prospects of preserving our mobility in less carbon-intensive society and I have decidedly mixed feelings about the prospect of returning to more local economies. This can mean many different things, from a distributist, MacIntyrean turn — which I consider unlikely if not impossible — to a society in which fabrication machines and resilient infrastructure reduce the vulnerability of the long supply chains on which we’ve all come to depend. The latter model strikes me as attractive and probably necessary, as it embraces what is best in globalization, namely the rich intellectual interchange that has, in my view, made the world a more innovative, prosperous place in recent decades, for all the attendant harms that have gone along with this overwhelmingly positive shift; and the latter model strikes me as narrowing and potentially tragic.

    Harris county emergency management

This merits more serious and sustained discussion. Suffice to say, I greatly admire Professor Deneen, but I think we don’t see eye to eye on some of the essential questions regarding the future of the natural environment and what social conservatism ought to mean.

My iTunes Genius is a Moron

    Taylor swift love story lyrics

Shh. Don’t tell anyone. My iTunes Genius is tone deaf. When I selected “Man of Constant Sorrow” as my “seed” song, My Genius actually suggested “America, F**k [sic] Yeah” and “Gonna Fly Now (Theme from Rocky)” at the store. The proper genre, or at least the genre I was looking for, was “Rockin’ Bluegrass”, not “Obscure Movie Themes”. Bzzt. Let’s try again.

Next, I tried “Funiculi Funicula” by Pavoratti, a song I knew was in the store. I was told “Genius is unavailable” for that song. Please choose another song or artist. A few more tries revealed that I needed to focus on pop music, not classical or obscure. Well enough. But then I got the same error message for the Beatles’ “Long and Winding Road.” You know them, a mildly popular band of the 1960s, known for not being sold through iTunes but otherwise not an unthinkable choice in a modern playlist.

Success finally followed for Alison Krauss’ “Down to the River to Pray”. My genius matched me up with Queen’s “Bicycle Race”, the Wreckers’ “Rain” and Billy Joel’s “Say Goodbye to Hollywood.” These are not exactly groupings that I would have picked myself. Llistening through to the playlist hit home how jarring those selections were.

I expect the Genius feature will only improve, especially as Apple big brothers all our personal music collections but for now I’m so totally not dropping Last.fm any time soon.

How’s Genius working for you? Are your playlists sublime or just strange? Let us know in the comments.
